DESCRIPTION:
APW - Waltham, D. & R.G. Special (Denver & Rio Grande Special) marked mvt and dial, 21J, Model 1892, 18S, gold-filled OF recase with attractive rear engraving detail, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, nickel damascene, gilt regulator assembly, mvt screws, and winding wheel hubs, s#12028512. A rare and desirable double signed railroad marking.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, short scratch adjacent main plate case screw, few mild fine to micro-fine scratches elsewhere, larger winding wheel with a small oxide spot, few additional tiny specks of oxide elsewhere to winding wheels and regulator assembly; dial with patched chip to inner corner of outer chapter and lower-right corner of center section above 5, patched chip to lower-left corner of center section above 7, small patched edge chip at 3:30, some scattered hls, dial with some looseness to mvt despite all three dial screws being threaded snug (we have not disassembled further to inspect beyond this point); excellent hands, minute with oxide to tip; case shows very little wear, some fine scratches to rear, some small nicks to band, excellent engine turning and engraving detail; bow pivots freely, crown shows very little wear; good glass crystal.
